PARENTING AND OUR COMMUNITY

Dear Parents,

I would like to share with you an alarming trend that is not only becoming a national
issue, but one that we are fighting right here in our local community: The rise in use and
availability of “Synthetic Drugs”.

I strongly encourage you to become informed about what our students are facing these
days. Whether your student is an academic, an athlete, an artist, or an activist they all
face incredible pressures to be involved with alcohol and drugs in today's society.

Become aware of what's out there and what you can do about it:

Parent Awareness Forums
How to Protect Our Kids from the Dangers of Synthetic Drugs.

Three forums have been scheduled for parents to learn about the dangers of synthetic
drug use. Student Support Services Department, Safety Wellness Advocacy Community Coalition (SWACC), PTSAs, law enforcement and other community agencies have partnered to make this information available (alcohol abuse, binge drinking, marijuana and other drugs).

Come learn about the new and dangerous synthetic drugs: Bath Salts, Spice, and K2 that are available to your students in our own communities.

January 25th at the Rancho Bernardo High School
Performing Arts Center 6:00 -7:30 p.m.

February 1st at the Del Norte High School Theatre
6:00 -7:30 p.m.

February 15th at the Poway High Performing Arts Center
in partnership with the Poway High PTSA
6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Parents, students and all community members are invited to attend. Resources and handouts regarding substance abuse will be available.
